Inheritance in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ visited Jabir bin 'Abdullah while he was ill and the verse of inheritance was revealed in response to Jabir's question about his inheritance.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: The Prophet came to me while I was ill. He performed ablution and threw the remaining water on me (or said, "Pour it on him) " When I came to my senses I said, "O Allah's Messenger ! I have no son or father to be my heir, so how will be my inheritance?" Then the Verse of inheritance was revealed.

EXPLANATIONS:
According to this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) visited Jabir bin 'Abdullah while he was ill. When Jabir asked how his inheritance would be handled since he had no son or father, Allah revealed a verse from the Quran regarding inheritance. This verse is known as the Verse of Inheritance and it outlines how a person's estate should be divided among their heirs after they pass away. According to Islamic law, there are two types of inheritances - faraidh and wasaya. Faraidh refers to fixed shares that must be given out according to certain rules outlined in the Quran, while wasaya refers to gifts or legacies that can be given out at one's discretion. This hadith teaches us that Allah will always provide guidance when we need it most and reminds us of our responsibility towards our family members even after we have passed away.
