Sahih al-Bukhari 5660 (Book 75, Hadith 20) #5434
Rewards for Suffering

SUMMARY: Allah rewards those who are afflicted with harm due to sickness or other inconveniences.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud: I visited Allah's Messenger while he was suffering from a high fever. I touched him with my hand and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! You have a high fever". Allah's Messenger said, "Yes, I have as much fever as two men of you have". I said, "Is it because you will get a double reward?" Allah's Messenger said, "Yes, no Muslim is afflicted with harm because of sickness or some other inconvenience, but that Allah will remove his sins for him as a tree sheds its leaves".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the reward that Allah gives to those who suffer from harm due to sickness or other inconveniences. It is narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud, a companion of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. He visited the Prophet while he was suffering from a high fever and asked if it was because he would get double reward. The Prophet replied in the affirmative and said that no Muslim is afflicted with harm because of sickness or some other inconvenience but that Allah will remove his sins for him as a tree sheds its leaves. This hadith teaches us that we should not despair when faced with difficulties in life, as Allah will reward us for our patience and perseverance during these times. We should also remember to be grateful for all the blessings we have been given by Him, even if they come in difficult circumstances.
