Abstaining from Luxury Items

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ advised against drinking from gold or silver utensils and wearing clothes of silk or Dibaj, as these things are for unbelievers in this world and believers in the Hereafter.

Narrated Hudhaifa: The Prophet said, "Do not drink in gold or silver utensils, and do not wear clothes of silk or Dibaj, for these things are for them (unbelievers) in this world and for you in the Hereafter".
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ حُذَيْفَةَ وَذَكَرَ النَّبِيَّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ لاَ تَشْرَبُوا فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ، وَلاَ تَلْبَسُوا الْحَرِيرَ وَالدِّيبَاجَ، فَإِنَّهَا لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to abstain from luxury items such as gold and silver utensils, and clothing made of silk or Dibaj. He explained that these items are meant for unbelievers in this world, but believers will receive them in the Hereafter. This hadith encourages us to be content with what we have now, rather than striving after worldly possessions that will not benefit us in the long run. It also reminds us to focus on our spiritual development instead of materialistic pursuits. We should strive to live a life of moderation and simplicity so that we can focus on our relationship with Allah SWT.
