Sahih al-Bukhari 5607 (Book 74, Hadith 33) #5382
Invoking Evil Upon Others

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr were travelling from Mecca when they encountered a shepherd. Abu Bakr milked some milk for the Prophet ﷺ to drink, and then they were chased by Suraqa bin Ju'shum. The Prophet ﷺ invoked evil upon him, but Suraqa requested that he not do so in exchange for leaving them alone.

Narrated Al-Bara: The Prophet came from Mecca with Abu Bakr. Abu Bakr said "We passed by a shepherd and at that time Allah's Messenger was thirsty. I milked a little milk in a bowl and Allah's Messenger drank till I was pleased. Suraqa bin Ju'shum came to us riding a horse (chasing us). The Prophet invoked evil upon him, whereupon Suraqa requested him not to invoke evil upon him, in which case he would go back. The Prophet agreed.

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek out peaceful solutions whenever possible .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's journey with his companion Abu Bakr from Mecca. When they passed by a shepherd, the Prophet was thirsty and so Abu Bakr milked some milk for him to drink. After this, they were chased by Suraqa bin Ju'shum on horseback. The Prophet invoked evil upon him but Suraqa requested that he not do so in exchange for leaving them alone, which the Prophet agreed to. This hadith teaches us that it is wrong to invoke evil upon others even if we are provoked or threatened as it goes against Islamic teachings of peace and justice. We should instead seek out peaceful solutions whenever possible as this will lead to better outcomes than resorting to violence or aggression towards others.
