Eating with Discretion

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) never criticized any food he was invited to, but would eat it if he liked it and leave it if he disliked it.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet never criticized any food (he was invited to) but he used to eat if he liked the food, and leave it if he disliked it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of your manners when you are eating with others; Use your best judgement before consuming anything; Respect other people's feelings by refraining from making negative comments about their cooking/food preparation; Be polite while dining with others; Exercise discretion while deciding what you will eat/drink .
EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to be mindful of our manners when we are eating. He never criticized the food that was served to him even if he did not like it. Instead of speaking negatively about the food, he would simply choose not to eat it. This teaches us that we should always be respectful and polite when we are eating with others and not make negative comments about the food or its preparation. We should also take care in what we say so as not to hurt anyone's feelings or embarrass them in front of others.

The Prophet ﷺ also showed us how important discretion is when making decisions about what we eat and drink. He would only consume something if he liked the taste or thought that it was beneficial for his health; otherwise, he would abstain from consuming anything at all. This teaches us that we should always use our best judgement before consuming anything so as to ensure that whatever goes into our bodies is healthy and beneficial for us in some way or another.
