EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates the marriages of two women, Qariba and Um Al-Hakam, who were divorced by their respective husbands 'Umar bin Al-Khattab and 'Iyad bin Ghanm Al-Fihri. After being divorced they were remarried to Mu'awiyya bin Abi Sufyan and 'Abdullah bin 'Uthman Al-Thaqafi respectively. This hadith highlights the importance of marriage in early Islamic society as well as the practice of divorce which was allowed under certain circumstances. It also shows that even after a divorce a woman could be remarried to another man if she wished to do so. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that marriage is an important part of life for both men and women in Islam, but he also taught that it should not be taken lightly or entered into without thought or consideration for its consequences. He also taught that if a couple did decide to get divorced then they should do so with kindness, respect, understanding, compassion and mercy towards each other.
