Sahih al-Bukhari 5276 (Book 68, Hadith 25) #5054
Divorce in Exchange for Gratitude

SUMMARY: A woman came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and expressed her fear of becoming unthankful for Allah's Blessings, so the Prophet (ﷺ) asked her to return her husband's garden and told him to divorce her.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The wife of Thabit bin Qais bin Shammas came to the Prophet and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! I do not blame Thabit for any defects in his character or his religion, but I am afraid that I (being a Muslim) may become unthankful for Allah's Blessings". On that, Allah's Messenger said (to her), 'Will you return his garden to him?" She said, "Yes". So she returned his garden to him and the Prophet told him to divorce her.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a woman who came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ expressing her fear of becoming ungrateful for Allah’s blessings. The Prophet ﷺ then asked if she would return her husband’s garden back to him and advised that he should divorce her. This hadith teaches us that we should be grateful for all of Allah’s blessings and not take them for granted. We must also remember that marriage is a serious commitment which should not be taken lightly or entered into without thought or consideration. If one does enter into marriage without proper consideration then they must accept the consequences of their actions even if it means having to part ways with their spouse.
