Sahih al-Bukhari 4904 (Book 65, Hadith 424) #4685
Confirmation of Zaid bin Arqam's Statement

SUMMARY: This hadith is about how the Prophet (ﷺ) confirmed Zaid bin Arqam's statement after it was denied by Abdullah bin Ubai and his companions.

Narrated Zaid bin Arqam: While I was with my uncle, I heard 'Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul saying, "Do not spend on those who are with Allah's Messenger , that they may disperse and go away (from him). And if we return to Medina, surely, the more honorable will expel therefrom the meaner".I mentioned that to my uncle who, in turn, mentioned it to the Prophet. The Prophet called me and I told him about that. Then he sent for 'Abdullah bin Ubai and his companions, and they swore that they did not say so. The Prophet disbelieved my statement and believed theirs. I was distressed as I have never been before, and I remained in my house. My uncle said to me, "You just wanted the Prophet to consider you a liar and hate you". Then Allah revealed:-- 'When the hypocrites come to you, they say: 'We bear witness that you are indeed the Apostle of Allah". (63:1) So the Prophet sent for me and recited it and said, "Allah has confirmed your statement".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ confirmed the statement of Zaid bin Arqam after it was denied by Abdullah bin Ubai and his companions. It starts with Zaid hearing Abdullah saying something that he found wrong and reported to his uncle who then told the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ called for Abdullah and his companions who swore they did not say what was reported to him. The Prophet ﷺ disbelieved what Zaid said which made him very distressed as he felt like he was being considered a liar. However Allah revealed a verse confirming what Zaid said which made the Prophet ﷺ call for him again to recite it for him so that he could be reassured that Allah had indeed confirmed his statement. This hadith teaches us many values such as truthfulness, honesty, trustworthiness and loyalty among others. It also shows us how important it is to always speak truthfully even if we are in distress or fear of being disbelieved because Allah will always confirm our statements if they are true no matter what anyone else says or believes about them.
