Sahih al-Bukhari 4742 (Book 65, Hadith 264) #4525
Judging Religion Based on Personal Gain and Losses

SUMMARY: This hadith is about a man who judged the religion of Islam based on his own personal gain and losses.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Regarding the Verse: "And among men is he who worships Allah's as it were on the very edge". (22:11). A man used to come to Medina as if his wife brought a son and his mares produces offspring. He would say, "This religion (Islam) is good," but if his wife did not give birth to a child and his mares produced no offspring, he would say, "This religion is bad".

QUICK LESSONS:
Have faithfulness towards God regardless of your circumstances; Trust God’s plans; Do not judge your faith based on personal gains or losses.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man who judged the religion of Islam based on his own personal gain and losses. He would say that this religion was good if he gained something from it, but if he did not, then he would say that it was bad. This shows us that we should not judge our faith in Allah based on what we get out of it, but rather by how much we put into it. We should strive to be faithful to Allah no matter what happens in our lives because He will always reward us for our efforts in the end. We should also remember that Allah knows best and His plans are far greater than ours; therefore, we must trust Him even when things don't go as planned.
