Sahih al-Bukhari 4722 (Book 65, Hadith 244) #4505
Reciting the Quran with Moderation

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the importance of reciting the Quran in a moderate voice, neither too loud nor too low, so as to not attract attention from non-believers.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: (regarding): 'Neither say your, prayer aloud, nor say it in a low tone'. (17:110) This Verse was revealed while Allah's Messenger was hiding himself in Mecca. When he prayed with his companions, he used to raise his voice with the recitation of Qur'an, and if the pagans happened to hear him, they would abuse the Qur'an, the One who revealed it and the one who brought it. Therefore Allah said to His Prophet : 'Neither say your prayer aloud'. (17:110) ie do not recite aloud lest the pagans should hear you, but follow a way between.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow a way between when reciting the Quran - neither too loud nor too low

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains an important lesson about reciting the Quran. It was revealed when Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was living in Mecca and would recite aloud with his companions. However, this attracted attention from non-believers who would mock and abuse them for it. Therefore Allah instructed His Prophet to recite in a moderate voice, neither too loud nor too low so as to not draw attention from those who did not believe. This teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and how they may affect others around us; even if we are doing something good like reciting the Quran, it is important to do it in moderation so as not to offend or hurt anyone else's feelings. We should also remember that Allah knows best and He will always guide us on what is right for us and our situation.
