Sahih al-Bukhari 4419 (Book 64, Hadith 441) #4214
Entering the Dwellings of Unjust People

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) warned against entering the dwellings of those who were unjust to themselves, and advised to enter in a state of sorrow lest the same calamity befall them.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: When the Prophet passed by Al-Hijr, he said, "Do not enter the dwelling places of those people who were unjust to themselves unless you enter in a weeping state lest the same calamity as of theirs should befall you". Then he covered his head and made his speed fast till he crossed the valley.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful and respectful when visiting places where people have suffered great losses or injustices; strive to do good deeds; remember Allah's power; enter in a state of sorrow if you must visit such places.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was passing by Masjid al-Hijr when he gave a warning against entering the dwellings of those who were unjust to themselves. He advised that if one does enter, they should do so in a state of sorrow and grief, lest they suffer from the same calamity as those people did. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful and respectful when visiting places where people have suffered great losses or injustices. We should also remember that Allah is All-Knowing and All-Aware, and He will not let any injustice go unpunished. We must always strive to do good deeds so that we can avoid such calamities ourselves.
