Sahih al-Bukhari 4393 (Book 64, Hadith 416) #4189
Gratitude to Allah through Manumission

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a man who was saved from heathenism and freed his slave out of gratitude to Allah.

Narrated Abu Huraira: When I came to the Prophet said on my way, "O what a long tedious tiresome night; nevertheless, it has rescued me from the place of Heathenism". A slave of mine ran away on the way. When I reached the Prophet I gave him the oath of allegiance (for Islam), and while I was sitting with him, suddenly the slave appeared. The Prophet said to me".O Abu Huraira! Here is your slave," I said, "He (ie the slave) is (free) for Allah's Sake," and manumitted him.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates the story of Abu Huraira, who was saved from heathenism and gave his oath of allegiance to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. On his way, he lost a slave but when he reached the Prophet ﷺ, the slave appeared again. Out of gratitude for being saved from heathenism, Abu Huraira decided to free his slave as an act of worship towards Allah. This hadith teaches us that we should be grateful for all our blessings and show our appreciation by performing acts that please Allah such as freeing slaves or helping those in need. We should also remember that everything we have is given by Allah and it is only right that we thank Him for His blessings.
