Sahih al-Bukhari 4381 (Book 64, Hadith 404) #4177
Honesty and Trustworthiness

SUMMARY: The people of Najran asked the Prophet (ﷺ) to send them an honest and trustworthy man, and he sent Abu Ubaida bin Al-Jarrah.

Narrated Hudhaifa: The people of Najran came to the Prophet and said, "Send an honest man to us". The Prophet said, "I will send to you an honest man who is really trustworthy". Everyone of the (Muslim) people hoped to be that one. The Prophet then sent Abu Ubaida bin Al-Jarrah.

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive to do your best in whatever you do

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of honesty and trustworthiness. The people of Najran asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to send them an honest man who was trustworthy, so he sent Abu Ubaida bin Al-Jarrah. This shows that honesty and trustworthiness are important values in Islam, as they were highly valued by the Prophet himself. It also shows that even though many people wanted to be chosen for this task, it was ultimately up to Allah's will who would be chosen for it. This teaches us that we should always strive to do our best in whatever we do, but ultimately leave it up to Allah's will as He knows what is best for us.
