Sahih al-Bukhari 4352 (Book 64, Hadith 379) #4152
Keeping State of Ihram

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) ordered Ali to keep the state of Ihram and asked him about his intention. Ali said he had assumed Ihram with the same intention as that of the Prophet, so he was asked to offer a Hadi and keep the state of Ihram.

Narrated 'Ata: Jabir said, "The Prophet ordered 'Ali to keep the state of Ihram". Jabir added, "Ali bin Abi Talib returned (from Yemen) when he was a governor (of Yemen). The Prophet said to him, 'With what intention have you assumed the state of Ihram?' 'Ali said, "I have assumed Ihram with an intention as that of the Prophet". Then the Prophet said (to him), 'Offer a Hadi and keep the state of Ihram in which you are now'. 'Ali slaughtered a Hadi on his behalf".

QUICK LESSONS:
Have good intentions while performing religious practices like Hajj or Umrah; Be mindful while doing these activities; Be aware that your actions can inspire those around you; Offer a Hadi if needed; Follow Islamic teachings correctly .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about keeping the state of Ihram which is an Islamic practice that involves abstaining from certain activities such as cutting hair or nails, wearing perfumes or stitched clothes etc. It also involves sacrificing an animal in some cases. In this hadith, it is narrated that when Ali returned from Yemen as a governor, The Prophet asked him about his intention for assuming the state of Ihram and upon knowing it was similar to his own intention he asked him to offer a Hadi and keep up with his current state. This teaches us that we should always be mindful while performing religious practices like Hajj or Umrah and have good intentions behind them. We should also be aware that our actions are being observed by others around us who may take inspiration from them if they are done correctly according to Islamic teachings.
