Sahih al-Bukhari 4286 (Book 64, Hadith 319) #4093
Entering Mecca with Helmet and Killing Ibn Khatal

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) entered Mecca on the day of the Conquest wearing a helmet and when he took it off, a man informed him that Ibn Khatal was clinging to the curtain of the Ka'ba. The Prophet (ﷺ) then ordered for him to be killed.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: On the day of the Conquest, the Prophet entered Mecca, wearing a helmet on his head. When he took it off, a man came and said, "Ibn Khatal is clinging to the curtain of the Ka'ba". The Prophet said, "Kill him". (Malik a sub-narrator said, "On that day the Prophet was not in a state of Ihram as it appeared to us, and Allah knows better")

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek Allah's guidance before making decisions/taking actions

EXPLANATIONS:
On the day of Fath, or conquest, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ entered Mecca wearing a Qalam, or helmet. When he removed it from his head, a man came and told him that Ibn Khatal was clinging to the curtain of Ka’ba. Upon hearing this news, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ordered for him to be killed. It is important to note that on this day Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was not in Ihram as it appeared to us at that time. This hadith teaches us about justice and how even in times of victory we must remain just and fair in our decisions. We should also remember that Allah knows best what is right for us so we should always seek His guidance before making any decisions or taking any actions.
