Sahih al-Bukhari 4138 (Book 64, Hadith 182) #3957
The Importance of Seeking Permission from Allah's Messenger

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of not engaging in coitus interruptus without seeking permission from Allah's Messenger.

Narrated Ibn Muhairiz: I entered the Mosque and saw Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri and sat beside him and asked him about Al-Azl (ie coitus interruptus). Abu Sa'id said, "We went out with Allah's Messenger for the Ghazwa of Banu Al-Mustaliq and we received captives from among the Arab captives and we desired women and celibacy became hard on us and we loved to do coitus interruptus. So when we intended to do coitus interrupt us, we said, 'How can we do coitus interruptus before asking Allah's Messenger who is present among us?" We asked (him) about it and he said, 'It is better for you not to do so, for if any soul (till the Day of Resurrection) is predestined to exist, it will exist".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Ibn Muhairiz and it talks about the importance of seeking permission from Allah's Messenger before engaging in coitus interruptus. In this hadith, Ibn Muhairiz recounts how he and other companions went out for a battle known as the Ghazwa of Banu Al Mustaliq and received captives among the Arab captives. During this time they desired women but were unable to fulfill their desires due to celibacy so they thought about doing coitus interrupt us but decided against it because they wanted to seek permission first from Allah's Messenger who was present among them at that time. When they asked him about it he said that it is better for them not to do so because if any soul is predestined to exist then it will exist regardless. This hadith teaches us that we should always seek permission before engaging in any activity which may have a moral or religious implication and also reminds us that our destiny lies with God alone and no matter what we do our fate will remain unchanged if it has been predetermined by Him.
