Praying on a Mount

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to pray optional prayers while riding on his mount, and whenever he wanted to pray the compulsory prayer, he would dismount and face the Qibla.

Narrated Jabir: Allah's Messenger used to pray (optional, non-obligatory prayer) while riding on his mount (Rahila) wherever it turned, and whenever he wanted to pray the compulsory prayer he dismounted and prayed facing the Qibla.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يُصَلِّي عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ حَيْثُ تَوَجَّهَتْ، فَإِذَا أَرَادَ الْفَرِيضَةَ نَزَلَ فَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us that Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to pray optional prayers while riding on his mount Rahila. Whenever he wanted to perform the compulsory prayer, he would dismount and face the Qibla. This teaches us that we should be mindful of our prayers even when we are in a hurry or busy with something else. We should take time out of our day for prayer as it is an important part of our faith. It also teaches us that when performing obligatory prayers, we must make sure that we are facing the Qibla in order to receive its full blessings.
