Sahih al-Bukhari 398 (Book 8, Hadith 49) #393
Establishing the Ka'ba as the Qibla

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) entered the Ka'ba and prayed two rak'at facing it, thus establishing it as the Qibla.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: When the Prophet entered the Ka'ba, he invoked Allah in each and every side of it and did not pray till he came out of it, and offered a two-rak'at prayer facing the Ka'ba and said, "This is the Qibla".

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey Allah's commands without hesitation or delay

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Ibn 'Abbas tells us about an event that happened when Prophet Muhammad ﷺ entered the Ka’bah. He did not pray until he came out of it and then offered a two-rak’at prayer facing it. This was done to establish that this is now going to be the direction of prayer for all Muslims - known as qiblah. This event is significant because before this Muslims used to face Jerusalem while praying but after this they started facing Makkah instead. It teaches us that we should always follow Allah's commands and never go against them even if we have been doing something else for a long time. It also teaches us that no matter how long something has been practiced or followed, if Allah commands something different then we must obey Him without hesitation or delay.
