Erasing Portraits and Leveling High Graves

SUMMARY: Ali bin Abu Talib (May Allah be pleased with him) instructed Abul-Haiyaj Haiyan bin Husain to carry out a task that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) had assigned, which was to erase all portraits and level all high graves.

Abul-Haiyaj Haiyan bin Husain said: 'Ali bin Abu Talib (May Allah be pleased with him) said to me: "Shall I not send you to do a task that the Messenger of Allah had assigned to me? Spare no portrait unwiped out, and leave not a high grave unlevelled". Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Erase portraits & level high graves according to instructions from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) instructed his companion Ali bin Abu Talib to erase any portraits and level any high graves. This is because in Islam, it is forbidden to make images of living things as it can lead people into worshipping them instead of God. It is also forbidden for Muslims to build high graves as this could lead people into thinking that the person buried there was special or more important than others. By erasing these portraits and leveling these high graves, Muslims are reminded not to worship anyone other than God or think that some people are better than others. These values teach us humility and remind us of our purpose in life - worshipping Allah alone.
