Riyad as-Salihin 1679 (Book 17, Hadith 169) #38168
The Sin of Imitating Allah's Creation

SUMMARY: Imitating Allah's creation is a grievous sin and will be punished on the Day of Resurrection.

'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah visited me after returning from a journey, and I had a shelf with a thin cloth curtain hanging over it and on which there were portraits. When he saw it, the colour of his face changed (because of anger) and he said, "O 'Aishah! the most grievous torment from Allah on the Day of Resurrection will be for those who imitate (Allah) in the act of His creation"'.Aishah said: We tore it into pieces and made a cushion or two cushions out of that. Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Aishah bint Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, warns us against imitating Allah’s creation. It tells us that this is a grievous sin and those who do it will be punished severely on the Day of Resurrection. We should remember that only Allah has the power to create and we should not try to imitate Him in any way. We should also remember that all our actions have consequences and we will be held accountable for them on the Day of Judgment. Therefore, it is important for us to always strive to do good deeds and stay away from anything that could lead us astray or cause harm to ourselves or others.
