Testifying to the Prophethood of Muhammad

SUMMARY: The Jew and his companion asked Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) about the nine clear signs given to Prophet Musa, and after hearing the answer they testified that he was a prophet.

Safwan bin 'Assal (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: A Jew asked his companion to take him to the Prophet ; and when they came to the Messenger of Allah , they asked him about the nine clear signs (given to Prophet Musa). Safwan narrated the long Hadith which concludes: They kissed the hands and feet of the Messenger of Allah and said: "We testify that you are a Prophet". At-Tirmidhi
وعن صفوان بن عسال رضي الله عنه قال‏:‏ قال يهودي لصاحبه‏:‏ اذهب بنا إلي هذا النبي فأتيا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ، فسألاه عن تسع آيات بينات؛ فذكر الحديث إلي قوله‏:‏ فقبلا يده ورجله، وقالا‏:‏ نشهد أنك نبي‏.‏ ‏(‏‏(‏رواه الترمذي وغيره بأسانيد صحيحة‏)‏‏)‏‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a Jew and his companion who came to visit Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They asked him about nine clear signs given to Prophet Musa. After hearing the answer from the Messenger of Allah, they kissed his hands and feet in respect and testified that he was indeed a prophet. This hadith teaches us that we should have faith in all prophets sent by God Almighty. It also shows us how much respect we should show towards our elders as well as those who are more knowledgeable than us. We should always seek knowledge from them with humility and reverence. Furthermore, this hadith also reminds us of our duty to spread knowledge among others so that they too can benefit from it.
