Riyad as-Salihin 760 (Book 2, Hadith 34) #37249
Generosity and Kindness

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us to be generous and kind to others, even if it means sacrificing something of our own.

Sahl bin Sa'd (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: A drink was brought to the Messenger of Allah and he drank (some) from it. On his right was a boy and on his left were some elderly people. He said to the boy, "Would you permit me to give rest of this drink to these on my left?" The boy said: "O Messenger of Allah, I would certainly not give preference to anyone in anything that might come to me from you". So he handed over the rest of the drink to him. Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) teachings on generosity and kindness. In this hadith, the Prophet was offered a drink which he drank some of it. On his right was a boy and on his left were some elderly people. He asked the boy if he would allow him to give the rest of the drink to those on his left. The boy replied that he would not give preference to anyone in anything that might come from him. This shows us how generous and kind we should be towards others even if it means sacrificing something of our own for them. We should always strive to put others before ourselves in order to show kindness and generosity towards them.

The Prophet's example teaches us that we should always think of others first before ourselves when it comes to sharing resources or giving out favors or gifts as this will help foster strong relationships between people based on mutual respect and understanding for one another’s needs. It also teaches us that no matter how small an act may seem, it can still have a great impact on someone else’s life so we should never underestimate its power!
