Sunan Ibn Majah 82 (Book) #36984
Predestination of Heaven and Hell

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the belief that Allah has predetermined who will go to Paradise and who will go to Hell before they are even born.

It was narrated that 'Aishah the Mother of the Believers said: "The Messenger of Allah was called to the funeral of a child from among the Ansar. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, glad tidings for him! He is one of the little birds of Paradise, who never did evil or reached the age of doing evil (i.e, the age of accountability)'. He said: 'It may not be so, O 'Aishah! For Allah created people for Paradise, He created them for it when they were still in their father's loins, And He has created people for Hell, He created them for it when they were still in their fathers' loins'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Believe in predestination/qadar; Respect all ages; Trust in Allah’s plan; Take responsibility for our own actions.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about predestination or qadar in Islam. It was narrated by 'Aishah the Mother of the Believers that when she was present at a funeral for a child from among the Ansar, she said that he must be one of Allah's little birds in Paradise since he never reached an age where he could do evil. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ then corrected her saying that it may not be so because Allah has already predetermined who will go to Paradise and who will go to Hell before they are even born. This teaches us that we should not assume anything about someone's fate as only Allah knows what is best for them. We should also remember that no matter how young or old someone is, their actions still have consequences and can affect their ultimate destination in life.
