Sunan Ibn Majah 66 (Book) #36968
Loving Your Neighbor as Yourself

SUMMARY: The essence of this hadith is that true faith requires one to love for their neighbor what they love for themselves.

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother" or he said "for his neighbor, what he loves for himself".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show kindness even when someone has wronged you; Treat others with respect; Be generous and compassionate towards your neighbor; Respond kindly when faced with aggression or hostility from another person

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from Anas bin Malik teaches us the importance of loving our neighbors as we love ourselves. It emphasizes that true faith requires us to treat others with kindness and respect, just as we would want them to treat us. We should strive to be generous and compassionate towards our neighbors, even if they are not related to us or have different beliefs than ours. By doing so, we can create a more harmonious society where everyone is respected and valued equally.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also taught that it is important to show kindness even when someone has wronged you in some way. He said “If someone does you an injustice, respond with justice; if someone gives you a harsh word, respond with gentleness” (Hadith narrated by Abu Dawud). This means that instead of responding in kind when faced with aggression or hostility from another person, we should try our best to remain calm and act kindly towards them instead. In this way, we can help create peace between people who may otherwise be at odds with each other due to differences in opinion or background.
