Ownership Through Reviving Dead Land

SUMMARY: Reviving dead land is a way to gain ownership of it.

Malik related to me from Ibn Shihab from Salim ibn Abdullah from his father that Umar ibn al-Khattab said, "Whoever revives dead land, it belongs to him". Malik said, "That is what is done in our community".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of reviving dead land in order to gain ownership of it. Umar ibn al-Khattab said that whoever revives dead land, it belongs to them. This means that if someone takes the initiative and puts effort into reviving a piece of land that has been neglected or abandoned for some time, then they will be rewarded with ownership over it. This teaches us the importance of taking initiative and putting effort into our work in order to reap its rewards. It also encourages us to take care of our environment by restoring any neglected areas around us so we can benefit from them as well as others who may use them in the future.
