Sahih al-Bukhari 3821 (Book 63, Hadith 46) #3649
Remembering Khadija

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) being reminded of his first wife Khadija when her sister Hala asked for permission to enter.

Narrated 'Aisha: Once Hala bint Khuwailid, Khadija's sister, asked the permission of the Prophet to enter. On that, the Prophet remembered the way Khadija used to ask permission, and that upset him. He said, "O Allah! Hala!" So I became jealous and said, "What makes you remember an old woman amongst the old women of Quraish an old woman (with a teethless mouth) of red gums who died long ago, and in whose place Allah has given you somebody better than her?"

QUICK LESSONS:
Be respectful towards those who have passed away; Be mindful with our words; Be grateful towards Allah for His blessings; Speak kindly even if you are feeling jealous or upset; Do not speak ill of others even if you are feeling hurt by them; Appreciate what Allah has given you instead of mourning over what you have lost .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's reaction when Hala bint Khuwailid, the sister of his first wife Khadija, asked for permission to enter. When she asked for permission, it reminded him of how Khadija used to ask for permission and this made him upset. 'Aisha became jealous and said something that was not appropriate in response. This hadith teaches us that we should be respectful towards those who have passed away and not speak ill of them even if we are jealous or upset with them. We should also be mindful of our words as they can hurt others even if we do not mean it in a bad way. Additionally, this hadith reminds us that Allah has given us better than what we have lost so instead of being sad or angry about it, we should be grateful and thankful to Him instead.
