The Consequences of False Oaths

SUMMARY: Swearing a false oath near the Prophet's Mimbar will lead to punishment in the afterlife.

Yahya said, Malik related to us from Hisham ibn Hisham ibn Utba ibn Abi Waqqas from Abdullah ibn Nistas from Jabir ibn Abdullah al- Ansari that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'If someone swears a false oath near this Mimbar of mine, he will take his seat in the fire'. "
قَالَ يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ هَاشِمِ بْنِ هَاشِمِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نِسْطَاسٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَنْصَارِيِّ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى مِنْبَرِي آثِمًا تَبَوَّأَ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the consequences of swearing a false oath near the Prophet's Mimbar. It was narrated by Yahya who heard it from Malik who heard it from Hisham and so on until it reached Jabir Ibn Abdullah Al-Ansari who said that the Messenger of Allah said that if someone swears a false oath near his Mimbar then they will take their seat in fire in the afterlife. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful with our words and not swear falsely as this can have serious consequences for us in both this life and hereafter. We should always strive to speak truthfully and avoid lying or making false promises as this can lead to punishment both here on earth and after death.
