Running Around the Black Stone

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was seen running around the Black Stone three times. This is still done by people of knowledge in Malik's city.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Jafar ibn Muhammad from his father that Jabir ibn Abdullah said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, hastening from the Black Stone until he reached it again, three times". Malik said, "This is what is still done by the people of knowledge in our city".

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform acts of worship such as tawaf with sincerity & dedication even if you are not able to perform Hajj due to financial or physical constraints .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah states that the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was seen running around the Black Stone three times. This is a ritual known as tawaf which is still practiced today by people of knowledge in Malik's city. Tawaf is an Islamic ritual where Muslims circumambulate or walk around the Kaaba seven times counterclockwise while reciting prayers and supplications to Allah. It symbolizes unity and submission to God’s will as well as a reminder of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael for God’s sake. It also serves as an act of worship that demonstrates one’s love for Allah and His House, which is why it has been prescribed for all Muslims who are able to perform it during their pilgrimage or Hajj to Mecca at least once in their lifetime if they can afford it financially and physically.

The hadith teaches us about humility, obedience, submission, faithfulness, devotion and love towards Allah Almighty through performing acts of worship such as tawaf with sincerity and dedication even if we are not able to perform Hajj due to financial or physical constraints. It also reminds us that we should strive towards achieving unity among ourselves regardless of our differences so that we can be closer together spiritually with our Creator through acts such as tawaf which brings us closer together physically too when performed collectively during Hajj season each year in Mecca.
