Serving God with Slavery

SUMMARY: Bilal asked Abu Bakr if he was bought as a slave for himself or for Allah's sake, and suggested that if it was for Allah's sake, then he should be left to do Allah's work.

Narrated Qais: Bilal said to Abu Bakr, "If you have bought me for yourself then keep me (for yourself), but if you have bought me for Allah's Sake, then leave me for Allah's Work".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of serving God with slavery. It is narrated by Qais and Bilal who were both slaves of Abu Bakr. In this hadith, Bilal asked Abu Bakr whether he was bought as a slave for himself or for Allah’s sake. He suggested that if it was for Allah’s sake, then he should be left to do Allah’s work instead of being kept by Abu Bakr. This hadith teaches us the importance of obedience to God and how we should serve Him with our lives instead of using them in worldly matters only. We must remember that everything we have belongs to God and so does our life; therefore, we must use it in His service rather than using it selfishly or wasting it on worldly matters only.
