Praying for Wisdom and Understanding

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) prayed to Allah to grant Ibn 'Abbas wisdom and understanding of the knowledge of Qur'an.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Once the Prophet embraced me (pressed me to his chest) and said, "O Allah, teach him wisdom (ie the understanding of the knowledge of Qur'an).
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ،، قَالَ ضَمَّنِي النَّبِيُّ إِلَى صَدْرِهِ وَقَالَ ‏ "‏ اللَّهُمَّ عَلِّمْهُ الْحِكْمَةَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's prayer for his companion, Ibn 'Abbas. He embraced him and asked Allah to grant him wisdom and understanding of the knowledge of Qur'an. This hadith teaches us that we should always pray for others, especially those who are close to us, so that they may gain knowledge and wisdom in life. It also shows us how much importance the Prophet placed on gaining knowledge from the Quran, as he asked Allah specifically for this blessing. We can learn from this hadith that it is important to seek out knowledge in order to be successful in life, as well as praying for others so they may benefit too.
