Showing Affection While Fasting

SUMMARY: Umar ibn al-Khattab's wife, Atika bint Zayd, used to kiss his head while he was fasting and he did not tell her not to.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that Atika bint Zayd ibn Amr ibn Nufayl, the wife of Umar ibn al-Khattab, used to kiss Umar ibn al-Khattab's head while he was fasting, and he did not tell her not to.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show your loved ones kindness and respect regardless of the situation or circumstance you are in.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of showing affection and respect even when one is fasting. Umar ibn al-Khattab was a prominent figure in Islamic history and his wife, Atika bint Zayd, showed him love and respect by kissing his head while he was fasting. Even though it is generally discouraged to show physical affection while fasting, Umar did not tell her not to do it as a sign of appreciation for her love towards him. This hadith teaches us that we should always show our loved ones kindness and respect regardless of the situation or circumstance we are in. It also shows us that even if something may be considered inappropriate or wrong according to religious teachings, there can be exceptions made if done out of love or appreciation for someone else.
