Making Dua with Two Fingers

SUMMARY: Abdullah ibn Umar saw someone making dua and pointing with two fingers from each hand, and he forbade it.

Yahya related to me from Malik that Abdullah ibn Dinar said, "Abdullah ibn Umar saw me when I was making dua and I was pointing with two fingers, one from each hand, and he forbade me".

QUICK LESSONS:
Make du'a humbly and sincerely without any gestures or movements of the hands or body.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the proper way to make dua or supplication to Allah. It was related by Yahya from Malik that Abdullah ibn Dinar said that he saw Abdullah ibn Umar making dua while pointing with two fingers from each hand. Upon seeing this, Ibn Umar forbade him from doing so. This hadith teaches us that when we make dua to Allah we should not point with our fingers as this is disrespectful and not in accordance with the teachings of Islam. We should instead make our supplications humbly and sincerely without any gestures or movements of the hands or body.
