Prostration in Jumu'ah Prayer

SUMMARY: Umar ibn al-Khattab recited a piece of Qur'an requiring a prostration while he was on the Mimbar on the day of jumua, and he came down and prostrated. He then recited it again the next jumua but did not prostrate himself and stopped others from doing so as Allah had not prescribed it for them unless they wished.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father that Umar ibn al-Khattab once recited a piece of Qur'an requiring a prostration while he was on the Mimbar on the day of jumua, and he came down and prostrated, and everyone prostrated with him. Then he recited it again the next jumua and everybody prepared to prostrate but he said, "At your ease. Allah has not prescribed it for us, unless we wish". He did not prostrate, and he stopped them from prostrating.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow only what is prescribed by Allah or His Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) . Be mindful of your actions during prayers as you are being watched by Allah at all times.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Umar Ibn Al Khattab once recited a piece of Quran during Friday prayer which required prostration and he himself prostrated along with everyone else present there. The next Friday when he recited the same verse again, he did not prostrate himself nor allowed anyone else to do so as Allah had not prescribed it for them unless they wished. This teaches us that we should be careful in our religious practices and should only perform those acts which are prescribed by Allah or His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . We should also be mindful of our actions during prayers as we are being watched by Allah at all times.
