Praying While Travelling

SUMMARY: Anas ibn Malik was seen praying on a donkey while travelling, and he did the raka and sajda by motioning with his head without putting his face on anything.

Yahya related to me from Malik that Yahya ibn Said said, "I saw Anas ibn Malik on a journey praying on a donkey facing away from the qibla. He did the raka and the sajda by motioning with his head, without putting his face on anything".

QUICK LESSONS:
Try your best to perform prayers in the best way possible even when you are in difficult situations such as when you are travelling or in places where it may be hard for you to find a place of prayer.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how to pray while travelling. It is narrated by Yahya ibn Said from Malik that Yahya ibn Said saw Anas ibn Malik praying on a donkey while travelling. He was facing away from the qibla and doing the raka and sajda by motioning with his head without putting his face on anything. This shows us that it is permissible to pray while travelling, even if you are not able to find a place to prostrate or put your forehead down for sajda. It also teaches us that we should always try our best to perform our prayers in the best way possible, even when we are in difficult situations such as when we are travelling or in places where it may be hard for us to find a place of prayer.
