Delaying Maghrib Prayer While Travelling

SUMMARY: Salim ibn Abdullah's father delayed maghrib prayer while on a journey and prayed it at al-Aqiq.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that he said to Salim ibn Abdullah, "What is the latest you have seen your father delay maghrib while on a journey?" and Salim replied, "One time the sun set when we were at Dhat al-Jaysh and he prayed maghrib at al- Aqiq".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be punctual in your prayers even if you are travelling .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of praying maghrib on time even when travelling. It was narrated by Yahya ibn Said and Malik that Salim ibn Abdullah was asked what is the latest he has seen his father delay maghrib while on a journey. He replied that once the sun had set when they were at Dhat al-Jaysh and his father prayed maghrib at al-Aqiq. This hadith teaches us to be punctual in our prayers even if we are travelling as it is an obligation upon us to pray all five daily prayers on time according to Islamic teachings. We should not delay our prayers due to any reason or excuse as this could lead us astray from following the right path of Islam which Allah has prescribed for us in His holy book Quran and through His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ’s teachings found in Hadiths like this one.
