Sahih al-Bukhari 3704 (Book 62, Hadith 54) #3537
Appreciating Good Deeds

SUMMARY: Ibn Umar reprimanded a man for being displeased with the good deeds of Uthman and Ali.

Narrated Sa'd bin 'Ubaida: A man came to Ibn 'Umar and asked about 'Uthman and Ibn 'Umar mentioned his good deeds and said to the questioner".Perhaps these facts annoy you?" The other said, "Yes". Ibn 'Umar said, "May Allah stick your nose in the dust (ie degrade you)!' Then the man asked him about 'Ali. Ibn 'Umar mentioned his good deeds and said, "It is all true, and that is his house in the midst of the houses of the Prophet. Perhaps these facts have hurt you?" The questioner said, "Yes". Ibn 'Umar said, "May Allah stick your nose in the dust (ie degrade you or make you do things which you hate) ! Go away and do whatever you can against me".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect and appreciation for those who do good things.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about respecting and appreciating the good deeds of others. It was narrated by Sa'd bin 'Ubaida, who told a story about Ibn Umar reprimanding a man for being displeased with the good deeds of Uthman and Ali. Ibn Umar's response to this man was to wish that Allah would degrade him, as it is wrong to be ungrateful or disrespectful towards those who have done good things. This hadith teaches us that we should always show respect and appreciation for those who do good things, no matter how small they may be. We should also remember that Allah will not tolerate any form of injustice or disrespect towards others, so it is important to always treat people with kindness and respect.
