The Importance of Washing Hands Before Wudu

SUMMARY: Washing hands before wudu is important as one does not know where their hands have been during the night.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'zZinad from al-Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "When you wake up from sleep to pray, wash your hands before you put them in the wudu water, for you do not know where your hands have spent the night".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of washing one's hands before performing wudu. It is narrated by Yahya from Malik from Abu'zZinad from al-Araj and finally by Abu Hurayra who was a companion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ taught that when we wake up to pray we should wash our hands first as we do not know where our hands have been during the night. This hadith teaches us to be mindful and conscious about cleanliness and hygiene even when it comes to something as simple as washing our hands before prayer. It also encourages us to be aware of what we touch and how it can affect our spiritual state while praying or engaging in any other religious activity.
