Musnad Ahmad 1405 (Book 7, Hadith 1) #35027
Accountability on the Day of Judgement

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that on the Day of Judgement, people will be asked about their actions in this world and will be held accountable for them.

It was narrated that az-Zubair said: When the verse, 'Then, on the Day of Resurrection, you will be disputing before your Lord" (az-Zumar 39:31) was revealed, az-Zubair said: "O Messenger of Allah , (is this) in addition to our disputes in this world?" He said: 'Yes'. When the verse, 'Then on that Day you shall be asked about the delights (you indulged in, in this world)" (at-Takathur 102:8) was revealed, az-Zubair said: "O Messenger of Allah , what delights will we be asked about? All we have is the two black ones - dates and water". He said: 'This will certainly take place".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that on the Day of Judgement, people will be asked about their actions in this world and will be held accountable for them. The narrator, az-Zubair was surprised when he heard this revelation from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as he thought that disputes were only meant to take place in this world. However, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ clarified that disputes would also take place on the Day of Judgement and people would also be asked about their delights or luxuries they indulged in during their life. He further explained that even if someone has nothing but dates and water to eat, they would still have to answer for it. This hadith teaches us an important lesson which is to always remember Allah SWT and strive towards righteousness so we can attain His pleasure and mercy on the day of judgement.
