Musnad Ahmad 1271 (Book 5, Hadith 677) #34903
Making Decisions on One's Own

SUMMARY: 'Ali was asked if the decision to leave Madinah was something that the Prophet recommended or something he decided himself, to which he replied that it was his own decision.

It was narrated that Qais bin 'Ubad said: I said to 'Ali: Do you think that this decision of yours to leave (Madinah) is something that the Messenger of Allah recommended to you to do, or is it something that you decided yourself? He said: why are you asking this question? I said: For the sake of our religion. He said. The Messenger of Allah did not recommend me to do anything with regard to this; rather it is something I decided myself.

QUICK LESSONS:
Make your own decisions and take responsibility for them

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of making decisions on one's own. It is narrated by Qais bin 'Ubad who asked Ali if the decision to leave Madinah was something that the Prophet recommended or something he decided himself. Ali replied that it was his own decision and not one recommended by the Prophet. This hadith teaches us that we should make our own decisions and take responsibility for them, rather than relying on someone else's opinion or advice. We should also be mindful of our actions and their consequences, as we are ultimately responsible for them ourselves.
