Musnad Ahmad 1070 (Book 5, Hadith 488) #34714
The Consequences of Lying About Dreams

SUMMARY: Lying about what one has seen in a dream will be punished on the Day of Resurrection.

It was narrated from Abu 'Abdur-Rahman, from 'Ali (رضي الله عنه), that The Prophet said: "Whoever tells a lie about his eyes (ie, claims to have seen something in his dream that he did not see) will be commanded to tie the two ends of a grain of barley on the Day of Resurrection".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be truthful and honest when speaking about your dreams.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that lying is wrong and will have consequences. It was narrated by Abu 'Abdur-Rahman from Ali that the Prophet said whoever tells a lie about his eyes - meaning if someone claims to have seen something in their dream which they did not actually see - then they will be commanded to tie the two ends of a grain of barley on the Day of Resurrection. This means that there will be punishment for those who lie and it is important to remember this when we are tempted to tell lies or exaggerate stories. We should always strive for truthfulness and honesty instead.
