Wiping Over Khuff (Leather Slippers)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the ruling of wiping over the khuff (leather slippers) for travelers and non-travelers.

It was narrated that Shuraih, bin Hani' said: I asked 'A'ishah (رضي الله عنها) about wiping over the khuff (leather slippers) and she said: Ask 'Ali (رضي الله عنه). I asked him and he said: Three days and nights - ie, for the traveler - and one day and night for one who is not travelling
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ، مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، وَغَيْرِهِ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُخَيْمِرَةَ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ الْمَسْحِ، عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ فَقَالَتْ سَلْ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيهِنَّ يَعْنِي لِلْمُسَافِرِ وَيَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ لِلْمُقِيمِ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the ruling of wiping over the khuffs which are leather slippers. It was narrated by Shuraih bin Hani' who asked 'Aishah about it and she told him to ask 'Ali. When he asked 'Ali, he said that for travelers it is three days and nights while for non-travelers it is one day and night. This hadith teaches us that we should follow Islamic rulings when performing our religious obligations such as prayer or ablution. We should also be mindful of our actions in order to stay within the boundaries set by Allah SWT in His religion.
