Musnad Ahmad 381 (Book 2, Hadith 282) #34057
Kissing the Black Stone

SUMMARY: Umar saw the Prophet Muhammad kissing the Black Stone and followed suit, even though he knew it was just a stone.

It was narrated from Hisham, from his father, that 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) came to the Black Stone and said: I know that you are only a stone and you cannot cause harm or bring benefit. Were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah( )kiss you, I would not have kissed you. Then he kissed it.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about Umar's visit to the Black Stone in Makkah. The Black Stone is a sacred object that Muslims kiss during their pilgrimage to Makkah. Umar was aware that it was only a stone and could not cause harm or bring benefit, but he still kissed it because he had seen Prophet Muhammad do so before him. This teaches us that we should follow in the footsteps of our beloved Prophet Muhammad and emulate his actions even if we don't understand why they are done. We should also show respect for sacred objects as they are symbols of our faith and devotion to Allah SWT.
