Musnad Ahmad 346 (Book 2, Hadith 252) #34027
Deliberate Killing of a Son and its Punishment

SUMMARY: A man killed his son and was brought to 'Umar bin al Khattab for judgement. He ruled that the murderer should pay one hundred camels as Diyah, but due to a hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) he did not execute him.

It was narrated from 'Amr bin Shu'aib from his father that his grandfather said: A man killed his (own) son deliberately and the case was referred to 'Umar bin al Khattab (رضي الله عنه), who ruled that the murderer should pay one hundred camels (as Diyah): thirty three-year-old she-camels, thirty four-year-old she-camels and forty five-year-old she camels. He said: And the killer does not inherit anything. Were it not that I heard the Messenger of Allah say, 'No father is to be killed in retaliation for his son," I would have executed you.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your parents no matter what they have done wrong or how much you may disagree with them

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the punishment for deliberately killing one's own son. The punishment is paying one hundred camels as Diyah, which includes thirty three-year-old she-camels, thirty four-year-old she-camels and forty five-year old she camels. However, due to a hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) which states that no father should be killed in retaliation for his son, 'Umar bin al Khattab did not execute him. This hadith teaches us about justice and mercy; it shows us how even though justice must be served, mercy can still be given when appropriate. It also teaches us about respecting our parents and how we should never take their lives away no matter what they have done wrong or how much we may disagree with them.
