EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns us against committing shirk which is the act of associating partners with Allah. It was narrated from Sa'd bin ?Ubaidah and Ibn 'Umar that Umar said "No by my father". The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) then responded saying "Stop it! whoever swears by anything other than Allah has committed an act of shrik." This hadith teaches us that we should not swear or take oaths using anything other than the name of God as this would be considered a form of shrik. We should only use the name of God when taking oaths or making promises as this will ensure that we are not associating any partners with Him. Furthermore, it also teaches us to be mindful in our speech and to think before we speak so as to avoid any unlawful acts such as swearing by something other than God's name.
