Loyalty of Freed Slaves

SUMMARY: The loyalty of a freed slave is passed on to the one who inherits his wealth, father or son.

It was narrated that ʼUmar bin al-Khattab said: I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'The loyalty (wala') of a freed slave (to his former master) is passed on to the one who inherits his wealth, father or son".
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ يَرِثُ الْوَلَاءَ مَنْ وَرِثَ الْمَالَ مِنْ وَالِدٍ أَوْ وَلَدٍ‏.‏
