Musnad Ahmad 258 (Book 2, Hadith 172) #33947
The Impermissibility of Taking Back Charity

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to take back charity given for the sake of Allah.

It was narrated from Zaid bin Aslam from his father from 'Umar that: He found a horse that he had given to someone (for jihad) for the sake of Allah being offered for sale in the marketplace, and he wanted to buy it. He asked the Prophet about that and he told him not to do that and said: "Do not take back your charity'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of charity and how it should be given with sincerity and without any expectation in return. It was narrated by Zaid bin Aslam from his father from 'Umar that he found a horse that he had given to someone for jihad being offered for sale in the marketplace, and he wanted to buy it. He asked the Prophet about that and was told not to do so as taking back charity is impermissible. This hadith teaches us that we should give our donations with an open heart, expecting nothing in return, as this will bring us closer to Allah SWT. We must also remember that taking back our donations is forbidden as it goes against the teachings of Islam.
