Musnad Ahmad 229 (Book 2, Hadith 145) #33920
Kissing the Black Stone in Faith

SUMMARY: This hadith narrates the story of 'Umar kissing the Black Stone and expressing his belief that it is only a stone and cannot bring any benefit or ward off any harm, but he still kissed it because he saw the Prophet Muhammad do so.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Sarjis said: I saw the bald one, meaning 'Umar (رضي الله عنه), kiss the Black) Stone and say: I am kissing you and I know that you are only a stone and cannot bring any benefit or ward off any harm, were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah رضي الله عنه kiss you, I would not have kissed you,

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow what our beloved Prophet did without questioning its wisdom; Have faith in Allah's commands; Trust that He knows best what is good for us; Perform Hajj or Umrah according to Islamic teachings; Show respect towards religious symbols like Ka'bah and Black Stone etc.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an incident involving 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, one of the most prominent companions of Prophet Muhammad. He was seen kissing the Black Stone, which is located at Ka'bah in Makkah. The stone is believed to have been sent down from Heaven by Allah as a sign for people to kiss when they perform Hajj or Umrah. Despite knowing that it was just a stone and could not bring any benefit or ward off any harm, 'Umar still kissed it out of faith because he saw Prophet Muhammad do so before him. This teaches us that we should always follow what our beloved Prophet did without questioning its wisdom even if we don't understand its purpose right away. We should also have faith in Allah's commands and trust that He knows best what is good for us even if we can't comprehend His plans at times.
