The Power of Patience and Forgiveness

SUMMARY: Abu Bakr rebuked a man who spoke harshly to him, instead of retaliating with violence.

It was narrated that Abu Barzah al-Aslami said: A man spoke harshly to Abu Bakr asSiddeeq. Abu Barzah said: Shall I strike his neck? He Abu Bakr, rebuked him and said: That is not for any one after the Messenger of Allah .
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ تَوْبَةَ الْعَنْبَرِيِّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَوَّارٍ الْقَاضِيَ، يَقُولُ عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ، قَالَ أَغْلَظَ رَجُلٌ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَرْزَةَ أَلَا أَضْرِبُ عُنُقَهُ قَالَ فَانْتَهَرَهُ وَقَالَ مَا هِيَ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏.‏
