Buying Oneself from Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) is advising the Bani 'Abd Munaf, Bani 'Abdul-Muttalib, the mother of Az-Zubair bin Al-Awwam and Fatima bint Muhammad to buy themselves from Allah as he cannot defend them before Allah.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "O Bani 'Abd Munaf! Buy yourselves from Allah; O Bani 'Abdul-Muttalib! Buy yourselves from Allah; O mother of Az-Zubair bin Al-Awwam, the aunt of Allah's Messenger , and O Fatima bint Muhammad! Buy yourselves from Allah, for I cannot defend you before Allah. You (both) can ask me from my property as much as you like".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive to purchase ourselves from God by doing good deeds in order to gain His pleasure .

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is advising four people - Bani 'Abd Munaf, Bani 'Abdul-Muttalib, the mother of Az-Zubair bin Al-Awwam and Fatima bint Muhammad - to buy themselves from Allah. He is telling them that he cannot defend them before God and they can ask him for his property as much as they like. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to purchase ourselves from God by doing good deeds in order to gain His pleasure. We should also remember that no one can intercede on our behalf before Him; only our own deeds will be taken into account on Judgment Day. Furthermore, it reminds us of how generous and kind the Prophet ﷺ was towards those around him even when he himself was in need.
