Sahih al-Bukhari 3516 (Book 61, Hadith 26) #3358
The Praise of Loyalty

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) is praising the tribes of Aslam, Ghifar, Muzaina and Juhaina for their loyalty to him and comparing them to the tribes of Bani Tamim, Bani Amir, Asad and Ghatafan.

Narrated Abu Bakra: Al-Aqra' bin Habis said to the Prophet "Nobody gave you the pledge of allegiance but the robbers of the pilgrims (ie those who used to rob the pilgrims) from the tribes of Aslam, Ghifar, Muzaina". (Ibn Abi Ya'qub is in doubt whether Al-Aqra' added'.And Juhaina'.) The Prophet said, "Don't you think that the tribes of Aslam, Ghifar, Muzaina (and also perhaps) Juhaina are better than the tribes of Bani Tamim, Bani Amir, Asad, and Ghatafan?" Somebody said, "They were unsuccessful and losers!" The Prophet said, "Yes, by Him in Whose Hands my life is, they (ie the former) are better than they (ie the latter).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of loyalty. It was narrated by Abu Bakra that Al-Aqra’ bin Habis said to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that no one gave him a pledge except for those who used to rob pilgrims from certain tribes. The Prophet ﷺ then asked if those tribes were better than other ones. Someone replied that they were unsuccessful and losers but the Prophet ﷺ disagreed saying “Yes, by Him in Whose Hands my life is, they are better than they”. This hadith teaches us that loyalty is more important than success or failure because it shows dedication and commitment which are highly valued traits in Islam. It also teaches us not to judge people based on their successes or failures but rather on their character traits such as loyalty which can be seen even when someone fails at something else.
